This Caesar II Demo allows you to build a Roman city of your own design. Build housing, water supplies, markets, forums, and other structures to increase your population and standing in the Emperor's eyes. The Demo limits you to 10 years of game play, or 1,000 people (whichever comes first), and you can not save games.
For space reasons, the Demo does not include Caesar II's online Help, Tips, and History features. The Demo also lacks the full version's rendered animation sequences and multiple tracks of music.
The full version includes a "Provincial" mode which allows you to connect your city to existing settlements, which you can expand into industrial and trading centers. You must then protect your gains from invaders using legions, forts, and walls. Caesar II uses a sophisticated, hands on, realtime combat model to resolve conflicts. Your overall goal is to "Romanize" the world by building thriving cities, bustling trading centers, profitable industries, and making sure nobody stands in your way. If you succeed, you will become Emperor. If you should fail, you will become something much less desirable!
Playing Tips:
To help you understand how the various elements of Caesar II work, do the following:
Use the Query button (it is the "?" button located in the Toolbox). Simply click on this button, then on anything in the map window. A shortcut is to Shift-Click on an item in the map window.
Use the pop-up menu at the top of the Toolbox to see how and where your city is in need. Click to the right of the pop-up to get color coded status information.
Pay attention to the left part of the Statusbar for help information. When you hold your cursor over a button its name (function) will be displayed there. Other useful information will also appear in the Statusbar.
